The first-rain visit

A roof repair isn't finished until it has rained on it.

Before anyone climbs up, we tell you which visit this is: the stop-the-water visit, or the permanent repair.

After the first real rain of the season we get in touch. If you want, we come out and check that the ceiling is dry.

If it leaks in the same place within the first winter, we come back. There's no new bill.

Our workmanship carries a 10-year warranty. The shingles or tiles carry a separate warranty from the company that made them, and you get both warranties in writing when the job is done.

After the rain

What the last storm left behind

The morning after a storm, walk the house and look for these.

  • A stain on the ceiling that grew, or a new one in the hallway
  • A drip at a light fixture, or water along the top of a window frame
  • Tiles that slipped or cracked when the wind came through
  • Water still standing on the flat roof two days later
  • Granules in the gutter, like coarse black sand
  • Daylight showing in the attic, or a damp smell in a top-floor closet

One of these is worth a call. Two of them, call today.

What we do

Roofs we repair, check and replace across Los Angeles

Repairs and leaks lead our week in the wet months. New roofs, tile relays and flat roofs fill the dry ones.

Not sure which one you need? Book the check and we'll tell you on the roof.

Step by step

How a repair goes with us

Steps one to five are the job. Step six is the reason for our name.

  1. Call, or book the check

Water inside today? A roofer comes out the same day. For anything else, we ring you within a few hours and you pick the day.

  2. If it's raining, the water stops first

The first visit is a cover or a temporary seal that keeps the room dry tonight. The lasting repair comes once the roof has dried out.

  3. The roof check, once it's dry

About 45 minutes up top, and in the attic if there is one. Before we leave, we tell you what we found.

  4. Your quote, in writing, in 48 hours

It splits the work into what to fix before the rain and what can wait for a dry month.

  5. The repair

Plants tarped, the pool covered, and a magnet sweep for nails every evening. If your job needs a permit, we pull it, and the fee goes to the city.

  6. The first-rain visit

Once the first real storm has passed we call, and if you want, come and look at the ceiling. If the same place leaks during the first winter, we come back with no new bill.

The LA rain calendar

Most of the rain Los Angeles gets in a year falls between November and March. Book the check before it starts.

When to book the check

Roofers book up the week it rains. A check in the dry months puts your roof on the list while the schedule is still open, and leaves time to fix what we find before the first storm. Nobody can tell you the day that storm comes. Some years it's late October, some years it waits until December. What we can tell you is what's on your roof before it does.

Already raining? Call first. We stop the water, then book the check for the next dry week. The check is free. Plan on about 45 minutes.

What the roof check covers

  • Valleys, gutters and downspouts cleared of leaves and granules
  • Step and counter flashing at chimneys and walls
  • Pipe boots, vent flashings and skylight seals
  • Cracked, slipped or missing tiles, and lifted shingle tabs
  • On flat roofs: drains, scuppers, parapet seams and where water pooled
  • The attic from inside, for daylight and old stains

Before you call

The questions change with the weather

While it's dry

Do I have to be home for the roof check?

Only if you want us in the attic. The roof itself we can check from outside, and the photos reach you the same day either way.

Can you do the whole roof too?

Yes. Composition shingle, tile relays and flat roofs, on houses and small apartment buildings. Plan a new roof for the dry months. The same workmanship warranty covers it.

While it's raining

What should I do while I wait for you?

Put a bucket under the drip and move anything electrical away from it. If the ceiling is bulging, keep people out of that room and don't poke it. Then call us. Water coming through a ceiling gets a roofer the same day.

Is this visit the temporary fix or the permanent repair?

We tell you before anyone climbs up. In the rain, the first visit stops the water. The permanent repair waits for a dry roof, and you see its price in writing first.

After the first rain

How do you decide the first real rain has come?

It's the first storm that soaks the roof for hours and fills the gutters. Once it passes, we call every customer whose repair hasn't been rained on yet.

Does the first-rain visit cost anything?

No. It's part of the repair. We get in touch after the first real rain, and the visit to look at the ceiling is included in what you already paid.

Who we are

A Los Angeles roofing company that plans the year around the first rain

We repair, check and replace roofs across Los Angeles County: clay tile on the Spanish houses, composition shingle on the Valley ranches, cap sheet and coatings on the flat roofs of duplexes and small apartment buildings.

A single slipped tile or a whole new roof, every job runs by the same three rules.

Three rules we work by

  • Water first. In the rain we stop it that day. The lasting repair waits for a dry roof.
  • Dry months for roof checks and new roofs, wet months for leaks.A new roof goes on when no storm is due, which keeps the rainy weeks open for leaks.
  • Every repair is checked after the first rain.We call once the first real storm has passed. If the same place leaks during the first winter, we come back without a new bill.
