Roof replacement · Los Angeles County
Roof replacement in Los Angeles, planned for the dry months
Composition shingle and tile. Book it for the dry months, while the schedule is open and no storm is due.

A new roof goes on when no storm is due, which keeps the rainy weeks open for leaks. If yours is worn out, plan the new one before the rain.
When a roof needs replacing
- It leaks in more than one place, or in the same place again after a repair
- The shingles have curled or cracked, or worn down to the mat
- You can feel soft spots underfoot, or see a sag from the street
- Repairs are coming more often than once a winter
On a tile roof, leaks all over usually mean the felt under the tile is finished while the tile is fine. That's often a job for a tile relay, which keeps the same tiles.
What we put on
Composition shingle on the Valley ranch houses and most postwar tracts. Clay or concrete tile on Spanish and Mediterranean houses. Flat roofs over additions, duplexes and small apartment buildings are on our flat roof repair and replacement page.

How a new roof goes
- The roof check first. It's free, and it tells you whether the roof needs replacing or still has repairs left in it.
- A start date in the dry months. Once you've seen the quote, we book the job while the schedule is open.
- The permit. If your job needs a permit, we pull it, and the fee goes to the city.
- Out with the old roof. The plants are tarped and the pool is covered, and every evening we sweep for nails with a magnet. With the old covering gone, we look at the boards underneath.
- The new roof goes on. New underlayment and flashing first, then the shingles or tiles.
What goes into the cost of a roof replacement
- The size of the roof and how steep it is
- Composition shingle, clay tile or concrete tile
- Whether there's one old roof to tear off or two, and the state of the boards under them
- Chimneys, skylights and vents to flash around
- A second story, a hillside lot, or a narrow side yard that makes the roof hard to reach
Once the new roof is on
Our workmanship carries a 10-year warranty. The shingles or tiles carry a separate warranty from the company that made them, and you get both warranties in writing when the job is done.
Through the first winter, if the same place leaks, we come back with no new bill.
Before you book a new roof
When should I book a new roof?
In the dry months. Roofers book up the week it rains, and a new roof needs a run of days with no storm due. Book the check early and the start date can land before the first rain.
Can I stay home while you work?
Yes. It's loud while the old covering is coming off, so plan around that, and keep the cars out of the driveway until the job is done.
Do you replace tile roofs too?
Yes. If most of the tile is sound, a tile relay keeps it on the house with new underlayment under it. If the tiles themselves are breaking down, they come off with everything else.
The first-rain visit
A roof repair isn't finished until it has rained on it.
